Zamboanga Sibugay wins Kagay-an Festival Folkloric Competition

Visiting continent, Zamboanga Sibugay is this year’swinner of the “plowtawo” dancecompetition of the Kagay-an Festival in Cagayan de Oro City. For the firsttime, the City Government of cagayan de oro and Promote CDO Foundation, openedthe said competition to non-CDO contingents to add more cultural relevance tothe event.

This is the first time that the “plowtawo” dancetechnique is being incorporated in what used to be the kagay-an FestivalStreetdancing- as proposed by Mr. Jun Pilapil of the NCCA. Hobart Savior and Prof. Glenn Reyessupervised the holding of the event held at Pelaez Sports center.

Zamboanga Sibuway went home with P250,000 cashprize and a trophy. 2nd place went to CDO Contingent Barangay Gusawho received P200,000 cash prize and 3rd place went to anotheroutside contingent- St. Peter’s College of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental whoalso received a cash prize of P150,000. To date, this is the biggest prizemoney that has ever been given to a streetdancing competition in the City.

Other participants this year included Gingoog City,barangay bugo and Lapasan of the city, Misamis Oriental Institute of Scienceand technology, and Municipality of Initao,misamis oriental.

Ms. Kagay-an 2011 is Ms. Angel Carbajal

The coronation night of the Ms. Kagay-an was held last night August 24, 2011 at the Limketkai Atrium with the 12 lovely candidates. The event was regarded as one of the well attended coronation night. Fashion and Beauty personalities in the industry have come to grace the event including Ms. Philippines International 2010 Krista Kleiner and Mama Rene Salud who was chairman of the 9 board of Judges.

The crowned Ms. Kagay-an for 2011 is 20 year old Angel Carbajal from Barangay Cugman. The Judges and the crowd was impressed with her answer on how she can use her title as Ms. Kagay-an to influence people and promote Cagayan de Oro.

The second runner-up which is the crowd favorite is Jamie Joy Bantigue. A 20 year old student from Mindanao University of Science and Technology who bagged not just 2 but 7 Special awards.

Congratulations to all Miss Kagay-an winners and the whole candidates as well as the organizers for a very successful Coronation night and is regarded as very truly Kagay-anon and one of a kind event.

Who will be the next Ms. Kagay-an?

This year’s Ms. Kagay-an 2011 is a grand gathering of 12 equally talented and beautiful young ladies from Cagayan de Oro which will promise to make the Pageant Night something to watch out for on Aug. 24 Wednesday 7pm at the Atrium of Limketkai Center.

The pageant night is open to the public and will also be seen Live over GNN Chan 45 for non-cable tv subscribers and Chan 29 for cable tv subscribers of Parasat Cable TV.

Department of Tourism region X who is spearheading the event for Promote CDO is in full gear now to make this event the grandest and most anticipated event in the Fiesta celebration of the city.

There is an interesting mix of candidates this year- students, working young professionals and travel enthusiasts who have gone through the usual tough selection process. Sidelights of Ms. Kagay-an 2011 included the Press presentation held in Malasag Eco Garden Resort, paraded their swimwear in N Hotel, and was in full fashion mood for the Casual wear presentation held in City Tourism hall courtesy of Ororama. Individual talents were presented in SM City and they did a high fashion ramp walk during the MAGS on the Catwalk fashion show in Limketkai Center.

Kumbira 2011

The Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) presents KUMBIRA 2011, a culinary festival featuring various food and beverage competitions, cooking demonstrations by experts in the food industry, and trade exhibits on Hotel and Restaurant Equipment, Supplies and Services.

It aims to promote healthy competition and camaraderie among the different hotels and restaurants, hotel and restaurant schools as well as, elevating the standards of the culinary industry in the region. The event will also feature the various skills, artistry and creativeness of the food and beverage practitioners and students through competitions.

Now on its 15th year, COHARA’s KUMBIRA will again hold the MINDANAO CHEF WARS, a regional competition for professional and student teams to represent Mindanao in the CHEF WARS NATIONAL COMPETITION during the “FOOD SHOWDOWN 2011” in Makati City on September 23-24, 2011. Food Showdown 2011 is a production of TV Food Chefs, a subsidiary of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.


The Department of Tourism Region 10 in partnership with Promote CDO will once again host Miss Kagay-an 2011. Living up to its tradition of searching for the young Kagay-anon woman with beauty, wit and charm, once again the doors are now open to young women aspiring to be Cagayan de Oro’s Ambassadress of Goodwill.

The traditional search for Ms. Kagay-an Coronation Night will be held on August 24, 2011 at 7 o’clock in the evening at the Atrium of Limketkai Center. The pageant will provide young Kagay-anon women an avenue to further their personal and professional goals while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence.

Kagay-an Festival Fun Run

Aiming to make the City of Golden Friendship the country’s next top running destination, Kagay-an Festival Run is again set to hit on August 21, 2011 at 5 o’clock in the morning. This year would be a 2km, 5km and 10km fun run plus a new category of 21km run.

It is expected to have twice the number of participants last year. Cash Prizes winners, medals and certificates shall be given to all participants. Start and Finish line will be at the Divisoria Kiosk.  The partner organization of this event is the Circle Productions, Inc.

Kagay-An Festival 2011


Its Kagay-an Festival once again.  The Cagayan de Oro City government in partnership with Promote CDO Foundation, Inc. present KAGAY-AN FESTIVAL 2011 in celebration of the city’s annual grand fiesta. The festival comprises of different core events and culminates on August 28, the feast of her beloved patron, Senior San Augustine.

Core events organized by Promote CDO and partner organizations are the rallying points for a campaign to promote Cagayan de Oro City and the surrounding areas globally as an investment and tourism destination. The city government granted Promote CDO Foundation the exclusive right to manage the fiesta events starting August 2007 pursuant to City Ordinance No. 10514-2007.
