Homegrown Businesses in CDO Go Cashless with GCash

Homegrown businesses in Cagayan de Oro started using the GCash Scan to Pay services to add more convenience to its customers and go cashless. GCash Scan to Pay will hasten user transactions without the use of money and without the need for change.

Three of the homegrown business that adopted the GCash payment option for their customers are Bigby’s Restaurant, Panagatan Seafoods Restaurant, and Odyssey Airport Express.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu shares, “as we aggressively expand to reach more customers, we are glad to be able to provide this service in the southern region of the Philippines. We expect that with more stores going cashless, more Filipinos will be able to experience the convenience of having everything on their device.”

For Bigby’s General Manager Sonjie Ang, the restaurant has always strived to innovate. “Partnering with GCash will offer to our customers as a payment option and the promos we will have with them will definitely be a big advantage.”

According to Shiela Baat of Panagatan Seafood Restaurant, “The convenience that GCash will offer to our customers as a payment option and the promos we will have with them will definitely be a big advantage.”

As part of their expansion to serve their customers better, Cielito Christine Almirante, corporate secretary for Odyssey Airport Express said, “Our customer base is people on-the-go. What they need and what we want to offer is the convenience of cashless transactions – practically a first in this line of business here in CDO. And I believe that partnering with GCash can make it happen.

Currently, 50% of the Philippines population is using a smartphone. Also, over 70% of the 60 million Globe customers are using a smartphone. With the massive share in users and customer base, GCash is poised to be the future of payment in the Philippines and is working on its mass adoption.

To use GCash Scan to Pay, a user only needs a smartphone and download the latest version of the GCash app. They would need to register an account and fill in their GCAsh wallet at over 12,000 GCash Partner Outlets nationwide. Once loaded with funds, a customer can now easily pay merchants by just tapping the Scan QR on the app, point the phone’s camera at the merchant’s QR code to scan and pay. Transactions are also listed on the app hence, transparency is not an issue. Users can also pay bills and send money via the app.

GCash can now be use on your Facebook Messenger

Globe GCash, in partnership with Facebook, is excited to announce an easy new way for people in the Philippines to pay bills and buy prepaid load using Messenger, with the ability to send money to friends and family coming soon.

GCash is a leader in transforming the mobile phone into a virtual wallet and is continually looking for ways to expand its services. GCash recognizes that Messenger’s community offers a unique opportunity to connect GCash with people who might not otherwise have access to its services.

“This integration with Messenger represents an exciting new way to reach the unbanked in the Philippines,” said Albert Tinio, President, and CEO of GCash. “We want everyone to enjoy cashless convenience on their mobile phones, and we think that these new tools will improve the financial lives of our customers.”

“We’re excited to work with GCash to give Filipinos new tools to access their money using Messenger,” said Facebook Product Manager Ginger Baker. “Our goal is to amplify the reach and impact of providers like GCash by enabling tools that allow them to connect people with the services and friends they care about.”

People in the Philippines regularly connect with friends and family to send money and pay bills. However, according to the World Bank, less than one-third of Filipinos currently have an account for financial transactions. As one of the most popular messaging apps in the Philippines, Messenger offers an easy way for people to create a new account for daily transactions. Through GCash’s partnership with Facebook, regardless of whether they have a bank account or a mobile money account, Filipinos will have an easy option for paying bills on Messenger, and will soon be able to send money to friends and family as well.

Using GCash on Messenger is simple. People can also buy discounted prepaid load on their phone anytime, anywhere, directly in Messenger. To get started, search for GCashOfficial on Messenger on Android.

CDOPlaces.com was invited to meet and an exclusive interview with Multi-awarded designer Tim Kobe — lauded for transforming the retail landscape through his work on the iconic Apple Store in New York City — he visited our city last November 7, 2014 to check the revolutionary “Generation 3” stores that he especially redesigned for Globe Telecom.  Globe tapped Tim Kobe in remodeling its stores to set the standard for store design and retail experience in the Philippines and in the world.

Tim Kobe is the CEO and founder of Eight Inc., a strategic design firm with offices in San Francisco, New York, Honolulu, Tokyo, London, Singapore, and Beijing. The “8 design human experience”—which hints at the Generation 3 store promise—states that “we design meaningful experiences. Experiences with emotion and purpose that change the way people think, feel, and do.”

A graduate of Environmental Design from Art Center College of Design, Kobe began his career working as a designer for The Burdick Group, a design firm based in in San Francisco California, In 1987, Kobe became a founding partner in West Office Design Associates, focusing on museum and exhibition design for several science museum exhibitions in the US and Hong Kong.

Years later, Kobe founded the globally recognized strategic design firm Eight Inc. At Eight Inc., Kobe worked with numerous brands in the retail and commercial space including Apple, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Nike, Coke, Knoll and Citibank, among others.

Beyond his duties at Eight Inc., Kobe is also trustee at Art Center College of Design and currently serving as Chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Grabhorn Institute in San Francisco California.

Together with Kobe, Globe is set to revolutionize customer experience through a highly engaging retail concept that reimagines the digital lifestyles of Filipinos. The new stores will feature interactive lifestyle vignettes that will showcase numerous products within interesting displays that are relevant to customers. The installations are flexible and reconfigurable enabling the store to transform, keeping the environment always fresh and giving customers a reason to return.

As Globe Telecom makes way for Kobe’s retail concept, it has closed down two of its biggest stores in SM North Edsa and Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro. The two stores will reopen in December 2014 promising a groundbreaking experience for its customers.

Prior to opening, the stores will feature themed surprises – Arts, Community, and Technology. Globe has commissioned a number of local artists to turn these stores into live art galleries that showcase murals exhibiting the vision Globe Telecom and Kobe’s Eight Inc. have for its upcoming Generation 3 stores.

For weeks now, local artists have treated Globe customers and retail onlookers to live art performances at their stores in SM North EDSA in Manila and Limketkai Mall in Cagayan De Oro. Art enthusiasts and followers on social media have been keeping tabs through #Gen3nextACT on Twitter and photos uploaded on Facebook since the art event began last September 25.
