Get to Know the Miss CDO 2016 Candidates

Higalaay Festival is getting nearer, we know this when the Miss Cagayan de Oro Beauty Pageant start rolling. Last Saturday (June 25, 2016) the Miss CDO 2016 were presented to the public and the media at SM City CDO Mall.


Coronation night is scheduled earlier than the city fiesta on August 13, 2016 at the Limketkai Center Atrium. Take a view of the candidates below to know more about them.

Higalaay: The Kagay-an Festival 2014 Core Events


The official logo of Higalaay: The Kagay-an Festival 2014 was unveiled in July 16,2014 at the SM City CDO Event Center. The festival is that time of the year when Kagay-anons seek out friends, make new friends, and go beyond self-interests to be friends for others. It is a festival in time for the fiesta celebration of the city’s patron saint, St. Augustine on 28th of August 2014.


The following is the festival core events and activities which are the rallying points for a campaign to promote Cagayan de Oro City and the surrounding areas as an investment and tourism destination.

Mindanao Fashion Summit on August 8 to 10 at Limketkai Rotonda – 1pm to 8pm co-organize by Oro Fashion Designers Guild.

The 3rd Mindanao Fashion Summit will bring together fashion designers all over Mindanao for them to exhibit and display their latest Mindanaoan Collection under the theme Local Designs – Global Impact. The event will open with an all – Mindanaoan Collection and the Men’s Wear Collection, The second day will feature the works of top designers from Davao, General Santos, Cotabato, Surigao, Iligan, Butuan, Ozamis and Zamboanga City. The third day is intended for the Holiday Grand Collection.

Kumbira, the country’s longest-running culinary show will be on August 13 to 15, 2014 at the Limketkai Mall Atrium, 10am. Organize by COHARA and Department of Tourism-10.

Now on its 18th year, Kumbira is the country’s longest running culinary show that focuses on showcasing the best and latest culinary creations in the region as well as highlighting local brands and products. This year, Kumbira has for its theme: “Throwback @ 18: Looking Back…Cooking Forward”. This 3 day event consists of exhibits, seminars, and competitions which will be participated in by restaurants, hotels, resorts, students, professional chefs, and food enthusiasts from all over the country. This year, an added feature is the Junior and Kiddie chefs categories.

Garden Show & Agri Fair on August 8 to 31, 2014 at Gaston Park organize by Flori Cultura de Oro and Agricultural Productivity Office.

The Garden Show will be held in the historic  Gaston Park and will feature an exhibition of garden plants and landscaping artistry from local gardeners and plant enthusiasts. A new feature this year will the the AGRI Fair of agricultural products from different barangays of the city.

Kagay-an Festival Marathon is on August 17, 2014 (Sunday) at Centrio Mall from start to finish, 3:00 a.m. Organize by Circle Productions

Aiming to make the City of Golden Friendship the country’s next top running destination, Kagay-an Festival Run is again set to hit with a 3km, 5km, 21km and 42km run.

Cowboy Festival: 10th Annual Cagayan de Oro Horse Show at Roa Property, P.N. Roa Avenue on August 22 to 24, 2014 organize by the Cagayan de Oro Horsemen, Inc.

The Cowboy Festival will be a spectacle of horsemen events like Oval Race, Obstacle Race, and Barrel Race which will be participated in by horse enthusiasts in all levels of expertise from all over the country. Young and old are sure to enjoy this experience as there will also be games they can join in. Yummy food and a variety of products will also be on sale at the site.

Kahimunan Northern Mindanao the food and lifestyle show 2014 will be at SM City CDO on August 23 to 30. Organize by the Department of Trade and Industry Misamis Oriental

Kahimunan Northern Mindanao Food and Lifestyle Show 2014 is the annual trade fair of the Department of Trade and Industry which will showcase the best products of SME’s in Northern Mindanao like processed food, handicrafts, furniture, organic and natural products as well as innovative and trendy items.

Miss Cagayan de Oro 2014 Coronation Night is on August 23, 2014 (Saturday) at Limketkai Center Atrium 7:00 P.M. Organize by JCI Bai Lawanen.

The pageant lives up to its tradition of searching for young women with beauty, wit, and charm to be Cagayan de Oro’s Ambassador of Goodwill. The search involves varous activities such as the Swimsuit Competition, Talent Competition at 4:00 p.m., July 19 at SM City Cagayan de Oro, and the Evening Gown Competition at 6:00 p.m., August 16 at the Centrio Mall Activity Center. The Coronation Night is at 7:00 p.m. on August 23 at the Limketkai Atrium.

Kagay-an Pyro Festival is on August 25 (Monday) at SM City which will start at 9 p.m. Organized by SM City Mall.

Each year, SM City’s Pyro Festival is a sure crowd drawer. Families, circles of friends and corporate groups bring out their picnic baskets at the SM grounds to enjoy each other’s company under a starlit sky. This year’s Pyro Festival will be a grander and bigger fireworks competition on August 25, a colorful prelude to the city’s fiesta celebration.

Street Dancing: Cagayan de Oro Carnival which will be different this time that the previous years will be on Augus 24 (Saturday) 2 p.m. organize by City Tourism Council.

The Cagayan de Oro Carnival is a street festival marked by merrymaking, an explosion of colors and dances. The Groups will dance on the street in a grand costume parade accompanied by carnival music. Revelers will masquerade through the streets in dazzling costumes dancing to the international beat and flavor of the Carnival – Cagayan de Oro style.

P.E. Rhythmic Dance Competition is on August 25 (Monday) at Pelaez Sports Center 7 a.m. organize by DepED, City Schools Division, DOT-10

The P.E. or from the word Physical Education Rhythmic Dance Competition is a special dance showcase and field demonstration participated in by Physical Education students from different schools of Cagayan de Oro City. This year, 4 elementary and 4 secondary schools will join in the competition with no less that 800 pupils per school.


Hegalas Parade of Floats and Icons and Civic Military Parade will be on August 27 (Wednesday) which will start at Rodelsa Circle 7 a.m. and finish at Limketkai Center. Co-organize by Artists and Cultural Workers of Cagayan de Oro.

The Higalas Parade of Floats and Icons is our festival’s version of a civic-military parade. It is culled from the exciting dynamics of our history and from the complexity of our contemporary  life. These HIGALAS will be accompanied by contingents from schools, barangays, civic groups and drum and lyre bands. An added feature this year will be the festival float parade with the theme: “Ako ug ang Suba Managhigala” where entry designs will reflect the interdependence between man and nature, our responsibility for the Cagayan de Oro River and the bounty that we stand to gain if we continue to respect its power, look after its welfare, and preserve its ecological integrity and natural beauty.

There will be 2 Religious Processions. The Fluvial Parade on August 28 (Thursday) which will start at 10 a.m. at Macabalan and finish at Duaw Kagay-an Park. The street procession will start at 6 a.m. as the St. Augustine Cathedral. Organize by the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro and Safer River Lifesaver Foundation, Inc. of Liceo de Cagayan University.

Processions will mark the feast of St. Augustine on August 28. In the morning of the Feast Day of St. Augustine, there will be a procession around the city by residents from the poblacion, parishes, schools and religious groups.

Later in the morning, there will be a fluvial procession honoring the city’s patron saint. Decorated boats and rafts with images of St. Augustine, his mother Sta. Monica, Birhen sa Kota, and the other patron saints of the 80 barangays of the city will go up the Cagayan de Oro river. The fluvial procession is the community’s effort to continually bless the river as well as promote the endeavors of the stakeholders in the preservation of the river.
